"The true leaders of the pack"- the story of The Micragirls

Mari: the five strings that drew blood, screams
Katariina: psychotic organlines, shouts
Kristiina: pulsating beat, howls

The Micragirls was born and raised in the smallish city of Kuopio up in the northeast corner of Finland. Living wasn't always easy in redneck- invasioned Kuopio and our heroes had to fight more than once against the jocks that were constantly harassing them- calling them freaks and weirdos.

It was all about to change after that one warm summer day in 2001 A.D. This hardhittin', man-hating gang of girls had an urge to get something goin' and in a burst of sheer happy drunkenness they form a band. The seed was planted and very soon the girls would get their sweet revenge. And so, there began the story of The Micragirls.

Obscure 60's garagepunk and trashy rock'n'roll not unlike the sounds found on comps like Back From The Grave, Sin Alley and Born Bad was something the girls held dear to their hearts. In 2002 their first single, the now long-gone and sold out, "Are You Insane, Girls?" 7" EP appeared and soon they were gigging extensively all around their native country.

Then in 2003, another 7" EP surfaced. "Mind Twistin`Weekend With..." was packed with hits like "Saturday" and "Date At The Graveyard" and now even the crowds outside the snowstruck country were starting to take notice and soon thereafter, shows in Estonia, Sweden and Russia followed and the bands throne as the new queens of lo-fi trashrock was furthermore strengthened. On stage their own material mixed together with cover versions of such classic songs like " Go Go Gorilla", " What A Way To Die", " Yum Yum Yamaha" and " Funnel Of Love" made them an absolute livefavorite where ever they went and whomever was in the crowd. Dressed in their exclusive, handmade Micra- outfits, white circusboots and sporting an enthusiasm towards their music is seldom seen. So it has never been hard for the band to win over the crowd.

They are like the perfect cartoonish daughter of Japan's The 5,6,7,8's, America's The Trashwomen and England's Thee Headcoatees. In Spring 2004 they made a monthlong European tour and a new 7" EP, "Primitive Homeorgan Blast", is out for adoration. Tracks such as the catchy-as-hell "My My Micraboy" will make crowds go mad all over our dear little planet!!

"Enter cannibal queens's waiting room if you dare! A bloodcurdling scream rends the air...drums go chunka chunka...guitar wails and Eko Tiger Junior (organ) is being tortured to death!! The Micragirls, all girl band that has more balls than the male bands tobether...Great stuff?? You can get your sweet but!!

The Micragirls are what trash-garage-punk-rockarolla is all about. Mean, nasty, filthy, inept and wild! They are armed with great tough songs full of bizarre tales of meaningless mayhem. Raw primitive pounding and ripping screaming vocals with crazy unintelligible lyrics make even the grown men soil their pants and beg for more.

If you are looking for "nice" good timey watered down retro rock, it ain«t here baby! The micragirls are original without trying to be and shall nail your ears to the wall, so help me Hannah! Don«t waste your time bubba, the killer kittens are loose and action speeks louder than words. The Micragirls!! Check«em out....NOW!!"

"Next band takes you from Italy all the way up to the North of Europe, Finland that is. This current 3-piece (on their first 2 7"s they were 4) is THE MICRAGIRLS and judging from both 7"s (2 out of three they actually have released so far) they could easily be as much of a surprise as the latest passage of The 50s HighTeens.

As indeed these girls show through their musical whereabouts on both 'Mindtwistin' Weekend with the Micragirls' as on 'Primitive Homeorgan Blast' they're pretty much capable off delivering a garagepunk trash and rockaholla bash of their own 'MICRAsized'-type variety. Sounding somewhere close to fellow Finnish companions Thee Ultra Bimboos and Larry & The Lefthanded, both on their very first musical efforts, it might be more appropriate to dish up some bigger names (since we're addressing a somewhat bigger crowd here, let's leave the happy few aside for a moment) like very first beginnings of The 5.6.7.8's, The Mummies (although without the overstressed lo-fi induction) or The Go-Nuts for that matter aswell.

THE MICRAGIRLS have gained themselves a live reputation over their native country but also in Estonia, and on a previous short tour through Germany and Switzerland. Their bewildering sounds are lustrous, foxy and full-on thrash-a-olla insanity whether they're delivering fuzzed and creepy instros or ripped'n'torn garage bashers. The vocals are squeaky and roaring, the organ is pure dementia and the guitar rips alongside the primal rhythms.

These ladies, who took their band name from a former Nissan Micra they once owned come over to Kortrijk for this one off weekend. It took them about a day drive to reach a low-fare airport to fly them into Belgium and you're even considering not to be present...you moron! -UP YOURS! zine

Holy shit! -Guitars Galore

Mari on guitar and vocals led the way relentlessly, even though her guitar strap (which was stuck on with gaffer tape) kept coming off. There was a guy on his knees from time to time trying to hold it up and gaffer it back on simultaneously. Katariina on crazy home organ, which she sat at, was concentratedly tapping away as if at a sewing machine creating a new crazy outfit for the band. Periodically, she got up and stood on the chair so she could just play the organ with her pixie boots. Kristiina was thumping away on drums like a trooper, and singing full on. They'd make a great double bill with The A-lines, but in a way they're crazier and seriously not compromising. -Artrocker

The Micragirls are three girls from Finland that decided to get a guitar, an organ (Eko Tiger Junior!) and a drum kit and start a garage band! They picked their name from the Nissan Micra car that one of them own and decided to rock the world! This debut platter by the Micragirls features four tunes, two garage punkers and two creepy instros: 'Saturday', 'Whatta Way To Die' (the well known 60s song by The Pleasure Seekers), 'Neki' & 'Date At The Graveyard'. Get that 45 and you will enjoy wild girly screams, haunted organ sounds and some really nice artwork on the sleeve. -Thee Cave
